According to Ted Hajnasiewicz’s Facebook post the day of his first solo record release show, he had never considered doing such a thing thinking “Who would care anyway?” Turns out plenty of people cared as the 318 Café in Excelsior, MN was completely sold out.

Although some songs on “This Is What I Do” are recorded in full band electric format including my favorite “Go Easy On Me”, Hajnasiewicz chose to perform acoustic, which better suited the scope and charm of this listening room. He did call upon several friends throughout the evening to join him on stage and contribute vocals, guitar, keyboard and spoken word. For many songs though, his own skill on acoustic guitar and voice served his thoughtful songwriting best. Hajnasiewicz’s singing mirrored what you hear on the album an is his best tool for expression with an easily identifiable vibrato.

Beyond the music, telling stories associated with this collection of songs made this show extra special. One of the best was driven by “My Heart is in Memphis” and developed into a mother/son dance making for a touching and memorable moment.

The evening was also enhanced with a substantial opening set by husband/wife duo Gather In The Rambler, which was rich with beautifully crafted harmonies.
