Some concert goers aren’t fans of acoustic shows; others don’t care for the idea of hearing an entire album performed live start to finish. Colbie Caillat’s “The Malibu Sessions Acoustic Tour” does both and is fantastic! The Fitzgerald Theater performance on
October 17th, was done in a “Storytellers” style format and Caillat seemed very comfortable sharing the stories behind recording the newly released album to a very receptive St. Paul, MN audience. Reflections ranged from recording songs on the beach in Malibu to shopping here that day and why the lighted letters (spelling Malibu) they purchased and displayed on stage had a curious spelling error.
The acoustic format really suits this collection of songs, which translated perfectly to the mid-size theater setting and sounded amazing. Caillat said she was particularly excited to perform some of her favorites from the new release “Goldmine", "Crusin’", "Never Got Away" and would be performing other hits to close out the show.
In addition to performing individual sets to open up the show, Justin Young (Caillat’s fiancée) and "High Dive Heart" were also Caillat’s backing band. She genuinely seemed to enjoy her time on stage here and praised the audience saying, “I feel like we’ve become fast friends.”
