Longtime Eric Clapton collaborator Doyle Bramhall II thrilled Twin Cities Blues fans with a rare solo tour stop at the Hook and Ladder in Minneapolis April 12th. It was a special treat to see an artist of his caliber in a small venue setting, which actually suited the performance very well and sounded fantastic! As a guitar player, I always find it amusing to watch a left-handed player’s technique, especially one like Bramhall who leaves the guitar strung right-handed. He certainly demonstrated finesse and great control over the fretboard and extracted great tone out of several different axes he cycled through that evening.

His 90+ minute headlining set included a variety of styles that were a reflection of the many projects he’s been involved with over the past 20 years. He interacted well with his band and the audience and came across as genuinely having a good time. Fans did not hold back in showing their appreciation after each song and made it known they were aware of what a rare and special performance this was.
