In recognition and celebration of legendary minimalist music composer Steve Reich's 80th birthday, every Monday night in April at Ice House in Minneapolis has been named Reich Fest. The third installment on April 17th included versions of 1967's "Piano Phase" (adapted for bass by Chris Bates & Cody McKinney) and 1973's "Music for Pieces of Wood" (JT Bates, Martin Dosh, Lars-Erik Larson, Greg Schutte, Joey Van Phillips). The final installment will take place next Monday, April 24th.

The evening was capped off with an extraordinary headlining set by Telecaster Master, Jim Campilongo. Although you certainly wouldn't call his music minimalist, the unique nature of his unconventional melody lines complimented the evening's music theme nicely. Campilongo has great style and personality that came across in his performance and his guitar playing was mesmirizing. Trio members Chris Morrissey (bass) and Josh Dion (drums) are both super expressive and just plain fun to watch. The venue really suited this show and sounded very good while the eclectic crowd was respectfully engaged during the quieter moments yet rowdy when it got rockin'.
