There’s an interesting backstory to Dan Israel’s 14th album “You’re Free” (see City Pages 5/8 interview), but even without knowing it you can feel authenticity in these songs. The same could be said about his live performance May 9th at the Cedar Cultural Center where the album’s release was celebrated. It was an ambitious offering with a 27 song setlist including most of the new material and a revolving door of musicians joining him onstage.
